Published Piece: Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2010

A year ago I volunteered at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2010, where I assisted at two of the most highly anticipated shows of the week.  The college I attended chose to feature a piece I wrote on Fashion Week in the college’s fashion newsletter.  I thought I’d share the piece with you.
'The Unforgettable Week of Fashion'
And so it was the calm before the storm, and what a storm it was.  The 15th Annual Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2010 was one of memorable moments.  The fashion industry watched and waited in anticipation as the new season’s trends graced the runways via some of the most highly anticipated shows.  Whilst fashion veterans such as Sass and Bide, Akira and Willow opted out of this year’s event, it was a time for new bright designers to shine.
The week began on a high note with collections by Zimmermann, Lisa Ho, Camilla and Marc and Nicola Finetti.  Mid week saw the collaboration of designer Alex Perry, make- up artist Napoleon Perdis and hair stylist Renya Xydis create one of the most glamorous and biggest events of the week.  The event consisted of over 1000 guests and an extravagant extended runway to showcase Perry’s exquisite pieces in his true style.
Meanwhile, up and comers Romance was Born and Dion Lee threw the fashion world into a fashion frenzy.  Romance was Born’s Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett created a magical fashion jungle.  Their Renaissance Dinosaur collection was unlike anything, anyone had ever seen before!  Their theatrical and creative aesthetic was one of a true masterpiece.  Models walked down a dirt, ash like runway to sound of dinosaur footsteps and Jurassic growls.  It had to be seen to be believed… models with long nails, neon high boots, extravagant headpieces, outrageous make-up and kaleidoscopic prints. Stand out pieces included a model dressed as a volcano and a giant bride, that is one model standing on another both draped in a vintage lace gown.
The light shined bright for Dion Lee’s spectacular collection.  What started as an exquisite location blossomed to an unforgettable showcase.  Dion’s gorgeous silhouettes were stand out and left everyone breath taken.  His signature architectural pieces were evident in this collection but softened and more delicate.  His cohesive and gorgeous colour pallet stunned audiences, with beautiful pastels and prints.
The 15th Annual Rosemount Australian Fashion Week proved to be an unexpected and
unforgettable event.  What trends emerged for this Spring/Summer season?  Pastels, nudes, leather, sheer clothing, crop tops, three-quarter pants, prints and drapery.  I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a highly anticipated season!

Look book Love: Dion Lee and Michael Lo Sordo

I'm frequently sent lookbooks, both in my inbox and by mail.  I've recently received two amazing lookbooks from two of my personal favourite designers.. Australian designers Dion Lee and Michael Lo Sordo.  Both designers showcased at Australian Fashion Week.
Dion Lee Line II look book
Dion Lee's Line II look book, is no ordinary look book, rather a true masterpiece!   Dion Lee joined forces with photographer Bec Parsons to create the unique lookbook featuring Dion's new Line II collection.  Line II is a standalone collection and is quite simplistic in comparison to Dion's mainline collection.  The collection emphasizes minimalism with classic cuts and a neutral colour palette for the perfect wardrobe essentials.  However, Dion's signatory architectural design aesthetic is still quite prominent throughout the collection.  The Spring 2011 collection consists of "15 styles, across shirts and dresses.  Fabrications are limited to silks; georgette, double georgette and faille, and cottons; poplin, voile and silk cotton."
Michael Lo Sordo S/S 2011/12 look book
I was personally contacted by designer Michael Lo Sordo, who sent me his gorgeous look book.  Michael Lo Sordo's S/S 2011/12 collection is feminine and simplistic.   I love his use of colour..white, black, pastel pink and blue, mixed with a unique 'smoke like' print.  My favourite pieces are the silk and sheer, flowy long dresses.

From a Dream to Reality?

I may live all the way across the world in Australia, but I constantly follow the global fashion scene.  A Fashion Week never passes, where I'm not permanently fixed to Style.com, waiting in anticipation for the new collections to grace the runways.  I live and breathe fashion.  Fashion is my dream, my reality, my escape and my world!  And now I'm one step away from possibly living my biggest fashion dream, attending New York Fashion Week and working with Elle Magazine!  I believe, I have what it takes to be a successful style correspondent.  Evidently I have the passion, and my heart lies in New York, but a successful style correspondent needs to be the full package.  Four key attributes that I believe are essential, are experience, knowledge, versatility and dedication.  My extensive studies in fashion and business have taught me to understand the workings of the industry and the market.  Working in magazines and at fashion shows has equipped me with the skills to not only cover and survive New York Fashion Week, but to create a spread for Elle magazine.   Blogging for two years shows my dedication and has taught me how to effectively communicate with those in the industry, and my social media networks.  The focal point of my blog is glamour, however, due to industry requests, I now cover all areas including menswear.  I believe I'm now ready to take on New York Fashion Week!
Hopefully I get the chance to meet you all in New York!
